I Think God Likes Curious People
I've been wondering lately if God smiles when we ask questions.
Not rebellious questions.
Not the kind that demand an answer before we'll trust Him.
I mean the kind of questions that come from wonder.
The older I get, the more I realize that curiosity has always been one of the deepest parts of who I am. I don't like learning simply to collect information. I like understanding. I love tracing ideas back to their source. I love discovering how one truth quietly connects to another until suddenly the whole picture becomes just a little clearer.
Sometimes I wonder if that's one of the reasons I love Scripture so much.
Every time I think I've understood a passage, I read it again months later and find something I somehow missed the first time. It's almost like standing in front of the ocean. The water hasn't changed, but depending on the light, you notice entirely different colors.
I used to think faith meant having fewer questions.
Now I think it means asking better ones.
Not, "Why is this happening to me?"
But, "Lord, what are You teaching me through this?"
Not, "When will this end?"
But, "How can I love You faithfully today?"
Those questions don't remove suffering.
But they somehow redeem it.
I've also realized that curiosity requires humility.
The moment I assume I already know everything worth knowing, I've probably stopped learning altogether. Maybe that's why pride is so dangerous. Pride closes doors that humility quietly leaves open.
I hope I never become the kind of person who believes she's finished learning.
I hope I always remain a student.
Of Scripture.
Of people.
Of beauty.
Of silence.
Of God.
Sometimes I laugh because I can spend an hour studying a single verse, then another hour wondering why one particular word was translated the way it was. To some people that probably sounds exhausting.
To me...
it feels like play.
Maybe that's why I don't think heaven will ever become boring.
If God is infinite, then there will always be more of Him to discover.
We'll never reach the end of His goodness.
Never exhaust His beauty.
Never finish understanding His love.
That thought fills me with more excitement than I know how to describe.
I think that's one of the greatest surprises of my life.
The closer I've grown to God, the less narrow my world has become.
It's expanded.
Everything feels more alive.
Literature.
Music.
History.
Nature.
Conversations.
Even ordinary walks have become opportunities to notice something I hadn't seen before.
It's as though loving God has sharpened my wonder instead of replacing it.
Maybe that's because He is the Author behind all of it.
The Artist behind every color.
The Mind behind every truth.
The Beauty behind every beautiful thing.
And perhaps that's why I never feel closer to Him than when I discover something that makes me quietly whisper,
"Oh... that's beautiful."
Because I have a feeling...
that's exactly what He was hoping I'd notice.
